Our Favorite Activities This Week

At the end of the day on Thursday we made a list of a few of the best things we did this week.  Here they are:

  • Being with friends!
  • Going to the computer lab
  • Going to the library (especially getting to talk to Mrs. Rowe)
  • Dressing the boy and girl pictures ( I made a picture of a boy and girl and when the kids are doing what they need to we put another article of a costume on them, such as a fairy, princess, prince, jester, or wizard.  I'll post a picture of it later.)
  • Interviews (We interview each child and write an article about him or her.)
We've had a great first week.  I've really enjoyed getting to know your children.  Thanks for taking time to fill out the questionnaire I sent home.  It really gave me some good insight to help your children.

Homework for August 23, 2010

There is no math homework today.  Please have your child read 20 minutes tonight and record the book you read on the Reading at Home chart.  This can be found in your child's planner in the front pocket, along with an explanation about the chart and how to fill it out.  Happy reading!

Welcome Back!

Here's our birthday graph.
It was such an exciting day here in first grade!  I really enjoyed getting to know your children a little better today.  Please make sure to check your child's planner for important papers.

Here are some of the things we did:
  • We had an assembly where we got to meet all the new children in our school.
  • We had a refresher course on walking in the hallway and learned how to use "marshmallow toes" and "marshmallow voices".
  • We put candles on our birthday graph so we know when our birthdays are.
  • We learned our new jobs in the classroom.
  • We learned about self-control and that we are the king/queen of ourselves.
  • We also got to go to the library.  Mrs. Rowe read us a book and taught us how to check out books.  After that we got to check out some books of our very own.  We promised to take good care of them and make sure they come back to school every day.
All in all, it was a pretty good day.  I can't wait to see you tomorrow!
